Gateway Middle School, a public charter school in San Francisco, is seeking an innovative Ethnic and Cultural Studies teacher. This is a temporary position (through early October) with the potential of becoming permanent depending on success and need. The teacher will serve students in 6th-8th grade in an elective class. Gateway Middle School is committed to helping each student – regardless of learning style or previous academic achievement – learn the skills, habits and knowledge necessary for success in college and beyond.
About Ethnic and Cultural Studies:
Ethnic and Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary approach that develops social, political, historical, and academic literacy through pedagogical practices that are responsive to all of our students and curriculum that is relevant to the cultures in our classroom. Ethnic Studies empowers students to explore multiple narratives, various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and their history, as well as the intersectionality between all people. It is and it is a path to understanding and appreciating everyone’s identity, the factors that create it, and the evolution of identity.

- A CA teaching credential
- Experience with Cultural and/or Ethnic Studies preferred but not required
